The Mute Button
She did not lose her voice. She turned it down to survive. And anything that got muted can be unmuted.

The Mute Button
Someone asked me a question the other day that stopped me cold.
He asked why I do not sing around the house anymore.
I did not even know I had stopped.
That is how it happens. Nobody decides to go quiet. You just start trimming yourself down to fit what the season demands. The opinions get softer. The kitchen dancing stops. The thing you used to do just for you gets moved to later.
And later never comes, because muted women are excellent at fine.
What muting actually is
Muting is not the same as losing.
You did not lose the woman who used to sing, used to speak freely, used to take up space without apologizing for it.
You muted her.
And you did it for a reason.
Somewhere along the way, being fully yourself stopped feeling safe. Maybe it was a relationship that required less of you. Maybe it was a season so demanding that anything not essential to survival got quietly turned down. Maybe it was years of being the one everyone depended on, with nobody asking how you were holding up.
Whatever it was, your system made a decision. It decided that some parts of you were not safe to express right now. So it turned the volume down.
That is not weakness.
That is protection.
But here is what nobody tells you. Protection that runs too long stops being protection. It becomes a cage built from the inside.
The static
I was talking with a woman recently who told me she used to have ideas all the time. Now her mind just feels like static.
She thought something was wrong with her.
Nothing is wrong with her. There is something sitting on her.
Years of carrying everything. Saying yes when her whole body said no. Disappointment she never got room to feel. Holding it together for people who never once asked how she was holding up.
That weight does not kill your gifts. It buries them.
The ideas are still there. The voice is still there. The vision is still there. The signal just cannot get through all the interference.
So I do not add anything to a woman.
I remove what is in the way, and she comes back online by herself.
She’s not gone
Go look at your old notebooks.
The ones with the business ideas. The journal with the dream you wrote down and never told anybody. The Pinterest board for the house, the wedding, the someday.
That woman had plans.
People will tell you that you changed. That you grew up, got realistic, got busy.
I am going to tell you something different.
She went underground.
Women do that when carrying everyone else takes everything they have. It is protection, not disappearance.
And here is what I watch happen when a woman gets restored.
She does not become someone new.
The original comes back.
She creates again. She speaks again. She builds again.
Not because she found motivation, but because nothing is competing for her survival anymore.
What this means for you
If you have been feeling the static, if you have stopped doing the thing you used to do just for you, if you have been excellent at fine for longer than you can remember.
She is not gone.
She is muted.
And anything that got muted can be unmuted.
The Decode Center is where we find your interference. That is the first step. Not adding more to your already full life. Removing what has been sitting on you so long you stopped noticing the weight.
bookwithanita.com is where that begins.
She is still in there.
Let’s go get her.
